DGR's first bloodstock transaction after setting up in business in Australia was in 1990 selling a UK based filly to John Ferguson Bloodstock. John is now Darley Stud's world-wide bloodstock buyer.

The first purchase at public auction was a $7,000 acquisition in 1991. Named Shoeshine Henry he opened his account with a second in the Breeders Plate Gr3, and won the inaugural Inglis Classic. As a three-year-old Shoeshine Henry was third in the Caulfield Guineas Gr1, The BMW Vase Gr3 & Spring Stakes Listed, earning over $330,000.

The owners of Shoeshine Henry remain with DGR and they have shared in the ownership of another well-purchased racehorse, who raced as Strasbourg and another new and up and comer and in Columate.

This a similar to many of DGR's clients have remained clients since their first thoroughbred venture, and together DGR and it's clients have created an enviable record of capturing Australia's very best races.

The victories enjoyed by DGR clients include such prestigious races as the Melbourne Cup Gr1, Cox Plate Gr1, Australian Cup Gr1, Hong Kong International Bowl Gr1, Canterbury Guineas Gr1, Caulfield Guineas Gr1, Orr Stakes Gr1, AJC Oaks Gr1, Flight Stakes Gr1, 1000 Guineas Gr1, Caulfield Guineas Gr1 and the Ansett Stakes Gr1.

These world-class thoroughbred victories were by race-horses that were bred, sold and purchased as yearlings by DGR's clients.
 
Duncan was born in the UK and he was introduced to the thoroughbred industry as a rider from a tender age, including junior showjumping at Hickstead, and eventing at district level.

He became an apprentice jockey as a 16 and 17 year-old with appearances at racetracks as varied as Royal Ascot and Bath.

Duncan gained extensive industry experience through tenures with studs, trainers, pin-hookers, bloodstock agents, veterinarians, specialist farriers through England, Ireland, North America, Australia & New Zealand. His working life has been spent in the thoroughbred industry, creating a bloodstock business for clients at every level. His chosen path is not a late career change or diversification into bloodstock.
